A tiny chewable that packs a punch!
After years of brushing, my kids still need a little help on occasion. They brush softly, too softly at times. I remind them to use a little muscle to get rid of the plaque stuck around their gum lines. Sometimes I find myself assisting them, because they think they're done. I give it a look and tell them they're not. They may not have seen the plaque that remained, but I sure did.
A product that's been around for a little while, but new to the Smile Brilliant line, are the Plaque Highlighters. Available for use by kids 5+ and adults. When I first heard about them, I thought it would be in the shape of markers. That's what I think of anytime I think of highlighters. But, the highlighter is actually a tiny tablet you chew and swish around your mouth to "disclose" the plaque on your teeth.
My son couldn't wait to try it. We followed the directions and watched as his teeth turned purple.
He did not like the taste at all. While swishing the chewed tablet around in his mouth, he kept making faces and asking if he could spit it out. We waited until it was completely liquefied and then he rinsed.
Not sure why, and I was actually surprised that it didn't have a kid-friendly flavor, even though it's Berry Blast. I can only guess they probably make the taste unpleasant to keep people from accidentally swallowing it. Other than the taste, he didn't have any negative reactions to it.
Another small issue was that it stained the sink temporarily. The stain lasted only a few hours, so it wasn't big enough of a deal to stop him from using the highlighters again, but it's worth mentioning so other users aren't surprised.
On the plus side, the plaque disclosing agent was easily removed from my son's teeth by simply brushing.
This is something I will surely have the males in my household continue to use, since they've never focused 0 on their smiles the way I do when it comes to mine.
